Noralyn’s Almond Bars From the kitchen of kelpiep


  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Cut shortening into dry ingredients, add water, chill. Divide dough in half. Roll out half to fit 13x9 pan, and place in bottom.


  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3-4 tsp almond extract
  • 4 T flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt.

Mix ingredients together (do not cook). Pour mixture on top of dough in pan.

Roll out other half of dough (on wax paper or thin plastic cutting sheet, well floured). Carefully place on top of filling. Bake at 325 until edges start turning brown. (~ 55 min or so.) Hint: if oven isn’t completely level, rotate pan occasionally! Cool. Enjoy!!
