Molasses Crinkles for Betty Crocker’s New Picture Cook Book From the kitchen of kelpiep

  • 3/4 c soft shortening
  • 1 c brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c molasses
  • 2 1/4 c all-purpose flour (you know I always used ww pastry flour!)
  • 2 t baking soda
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1/2 t ground cloves
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1 t ginger

Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses thoroughly. Measure flour. Blend all dry ingredients; stir in. Chill. Heat oven to 375ยบ (quick mod.). Roll dough into balls the size of large walnuts. Dip tops in sugar. Place, sugared-side-up, 3” apart on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle each with 2 or 3 drops of water. Bake 10 to 12 min. Makes 4 doz.
