Strawberry Pretzel Salad (originally from Stephanie Carpenter) From the kitchen of JLeon

The “secret” to this salad is a layer of crushed pretzels on the bottom, forming a crust. You’ll have everyone wondering what it is.

Crust ingredients:

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 1½ sticks melted margarine
  • 3 teaspoons granulated sugar

Middle layer ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 ounce package of softened cream cheese
  • 8 ounce package of Cool Whip

Top layer ingredients:

  • 6 ounce package of strawberry flavored gelatin (not unsweetened type)
  • 2 cups water, boiling
  • 2 (10 ounce) packages of frozen strawberries

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Mix pretzels, margarine and sugar. Place in a 9x13” and spread until evenly covered. Bake for 8-10 minutes and let cool.
  • While crust is cooling, beat well together, the sugar and cream cheese.
  • Once the crust has cooled, spread the sugar/cream cheese mixture over the crust. Then spread the Cool Whip over the cheese mixture.
  • Mix together the gelatin and water, ensuring that the gelatin has completely dissolved. Then add in the strawberries. Place in the refrigerator until slightly thickened (approximately 10 minutes). Spread mixture over the top of the Cool Whip and refrigerate.
